As many LS3 guys have been doing once they delete their dod/vvt stuff, i felt it was needed on my non dod/vvt 6.2

I have been putting it off for a while, yet i had some free time and decided to tackle it.

Super easy. About an hour job with my 2wd truck.


I see an idle oil pressure of 48-50 now vs the 43-48. About 1500+ i see 58-60. I have yet to be WOT, so i don't know the max oil pressure i see. I know about 3/4 throttle i see about 65-68psi


I didn't think to take a before install and after install picture so i just used one from a google search
I ordered a Dorman Oil Drain Plug w/Gasket 090-154 - M14-1.5

 

Been wondering if gen 3 oil pan would accomplish the same thing???

 

It could i think, yet we don't have the low oil level sensor in our pans. Well atleast the ones i've seen don't.

The plug was about 5.00 so i would have had to chase down a pan

 

Thats a good point..... Im still debating the vvt vs non vvt thing at the moment for my yukon.... Afm is going away, without a doubt but if i decide to add vvt i will need to keep the relief in the pan, if not i will end up deleting it...

 

Mine has a low oil level sensor. I used a pipe plug and see 70+ psi at 3k rpm. The gen 3 pan has the drain on the side right onto the frame. All gen 4 motor oil pans have this relief valve.

 

Im confused what you mean about the gen 3 drain?? The gen 3 drain plug is at the back of the pan the gen iv are on the side... The gen 4 has sway bar at the back of the pan but no real frame that i remember...

 

A pipe plug for the oil relief? That's not a horrible idea, but how did you seal the threads and not fear of hurting the engine? I like this drain plug because it has a copper gasket

 

How would it hurt the engine? The tiny little bit that may seep past the threads ( if at all).

 

I was mainly asking about any "sealant" if any was used.
I doubt it'd be noticed if nothing was used on them considering it's already getting more oil pressure to it.

 

Wolftrk99 your right i had em backwards. Thread sealer. The factory valve has some on it so i added some to the plug.
