It is shocking to me though how much slower the 4x4s are. How can 200 extra lbs add up to nearly a full second to 1/4 times?

Here's a few more pics from that day. The dragster is built a local diesel collage and uses all big rig part, rear axle, air breaks, super single's for the rear tires, its a V-8 Detroit 2 stroke diesel with a supercharger and twin turbos feeding it, plus it also has nitrous! They were having traction problems...

I think the difference is more than 200 lb. I weighed at the state scale on the way to the track and was 5,950 lb. That's with my son on board (115 lb) but only about 6 gallons of gas in the tank (so 120 lb lighter than if it was full). I didn't take out any of my tools or emergency kit, and I've got a ton of options. Some of the guys have posted 2x4 weights, and if I remember right they were down around 5,400 lb.

Have you weighed yours?

Also, come to think of it, I don't really know how the transfer case and front diff disengage when we switch out of 4WD on these trucks, but probably there's significant extra mechanical drag slowing us down.

For Refrence, my CCSB 2WD 6.2 Truck weighs 5280 with me in it and about 3/8th tank of gas.

It's interesting how much some of our trucks vary in weight. I weighed mine on the scale at the local landfill and I'm full street setup with half a tank of has and my two dogs in the back seat I was at 5760 I want to go back with 1/4 tank, no tail gate and my track tires on and see what I get

Hmmmm ... that makes me want to take all the crap out of mine and check it again. I'll put that on my to-do list.

From what I understand the front gears are always turning with the wheels since our trucks don't have any way to manually engage and disengage the the wheels from the differential. I don't think the front end free spinning would affect performance that much but then again I'm not an engineer. I would love the chance to weigh my truck but have no idea how I could do it and get an accurate #.

I agree, seems like about 1 second is what you lose having a 4x4,extra rotating drivetrain mass, taller heavier tires and dead weight and body height,it just costs more HP and $ to own a 4x4

OK pros, about how much HP to the tires does it to make up the 1 sec difference? 70hp? 85? 100?
