I'm not really sure about mine. Mine was already painted when I bought it from the dealership. I assume the chrome was either blasted off or sanded and primed over

The grilles come already painted, but the bumper piece comes "paint to match". Part number for the bumper piece is 15836962.

Here are the part numbers for some of the colors....

Black (41U)- 19158486
Blue Granite Metallic (46U) - 19158485
Dark Blue Metallic (25U) - 19154230
Graystone Metallic (16U) - 19170120
Silver Birch Metallic (59U) - 19154229
Summit White (50U) - 19154228
Victory Red (74U) - 19154231

Hope that helps. The cheapest place I found is Gmpartsdirect.com. Or you can go through the dealer.....

For the chrome part you can chance sanding it down as much as you can, prime with a good etching primer then paint.
Or the best option, mediablast it, prime it, paint it.

My bumper is from a Z-71 Tahoe and so was my bumper cap. This new bumper cap was sanded/smothed and painted, same for the HD Grille. If done right, you should not have any problems with paint flaking off other than the common rock chips, can't avoid those and get very noticeable on colormatched fronts.

Grille already painted from the dealer it's just an LTZ grille, the bumper, sand blasted -prepped and painted, mirrors, and roll pan.

My rear is a W/T painted, and I have a GMC front end, so I'm no help there.
