I'm going to try drilling and tapping the ends of my studs that stick out past the lugnuts for set screws that stick out just far enough to stop the lug nut from coming off. one or two per wheel would definitely be an improvement over standard locks.

You Texans and your guns. Always there to make you feel like a badass....

Oh look my kid is crying...i bet he needs a Glock...

As much as it sucks to have something stolen (read above I recently had it happen also) this is why you have insurance.

This Texan and his guns has had to use it on 2 separate occasions when living in my old apartment complex so yeah... I do have one. When someone rolls up on you to jack your truck at a light in the ward and you only have a tire iron or a pocket knife... goodnight bud.

It's not about feeling like a badass, it's about having a tool which has the capability to modify an otherwise undesirable outcome in an encounter into one with a better outcome (provided you have the necessary knowledge on how to / when to operate said tool.)

Your last sentence pretty much sums up what is wrong with the thought process with respect to insurance. In a situation where you can assess the parameters and determine what to do, and when the factor of a "tool" is needed to make the situation proceed as best as it can, that tool is invaluable. The mind set of just letting "insurance take care of it" is part of the reason why premiums have been steadily increasing (not to mention the amount of money we're willing to spend on vehicles and crap for said vehicles, partly due to loss of value of the dollar.) Thieves have picked up on this for sure, and are becoming more brazen and desperate in their attempts. "Oh well, Insurance will pick that up.?." Say hello to more premium increases.

IF there is a way that you can tilt the outcome in your favor and make someone think twice about wrongdoing/bodily harm to you, is that not the proper way to work things? Might just save them in the long run, versus more people just letting them do it with out consequence/fear.

OP, sorry for the bad times that have befallen you, hope they find the thieves in your area and put a stop to this.
