I used the rubber hoses and have not had any issues, and im sure my underhood temps are beyond rediculous with a blower + 100 degree alabama heat.
I would only spend the cash on the nice silicone if I was using it pre-intercooler on a turbo or something that sees potentially very high temps.

I did something very similar but came from the pass tow hook hole, being i have the lower billet i opened up the hole and dont have tow hooks, wanted to do like u but have the billet in my bumper too, worked great!! Dont know about power increase but before the blower my iats were 2-3* above ambient....

I did something like that once, then we had a good downpour; sucked in water stalled the truck and fried the MAF sensor. Thank God I was still under warranty to cover my stupidity..........
