Keep your 6L80E and do the normal bolt on mods that are available for it, such as a shift kit and cooler...maybe talk to Chris at Cirlce-D and see if he has any insight for you...

Are there shift kits available for the 6L80E?

I dont think there are any upgraded parts for these trannies besides what Circle D has for them.

I checked my calender and Ill probably be doing the swap around the end of july since thts the only time I'll have off. So hopefully I'll find a 6L90 by then, if not Ill go with the 6L80 until it blows.

I know TransGo was going to come out with one but gave up after some R&D last year. What they told me was that the TCM kept counteracting the changes they were trying to make.

Wow...I knew the 6L90 was stronger but seeing these number makes me really want to wait and see if I can find one.

I'd done some research on the 6L90s and so far I know that there the "MYD" and that they come in the 2500HD trucks. The 2500HD Silverados and Sierras are the ones I've been asking about since those are the only trucks I know come with those trannies, but I almost never see any HD trucks come through my buddys salvage yard. What I dont get is that I've read that the Yukons also come equipped with the 6L90s but I've looked it up and it says they come with the "MYC" which is the 6L80. Anyone know if any Yukons come equipped with the 6L90s? That would be much easier for me to find since Yukons are more commonly seen.
I agree w/. 1slow01Z71, rock the 6L80E til it blows.
I forgot if you're goin F/I or not. How crazy do u need? Cause the 90E won't be light. Seems it comes in 1 case size, Large x Huge.

TransGo seems to be the leader in shift kits. Now what will guys do? These trannies just get more sophiscated = more $. So the products to mod them, do too. Someone has to pay for that R&D.

The reason Im asking is because im planning on swapping in the 6.2 then s/c it soon after into my nnbs rcsb. I did plan on doing it this spring break but the only thing holding me back is the 6L80. Ive been waiting and searching to find a 6L90 but w/o luck.

Its going to be my DD so I want to know it wont suddenly go out on me. Not really looking for the truck to be beast or a 1/4 mile monster, just want the truck to be able to defend itself against a couple of unsuspecting srt8s an lightnings.
i think you dont have to wory about the trany it can handle alot its all about the tune you must keep the torqe mangment on let it do it job you will lose some speed while changes but you will sleep with a smile, i have a 2008 h2 with tvs 1900 @ 8 psi and every thing is ok

Thanks for all the replies.

Well I'm hoping to s/c it once I get the 6.2/tranny swap running right. I"ve seen a couple of guys on here with s/c 6.2s in their ext cabs, cc, and suvs running with the 6L80 so I guess it shouldnt be as bad if I run it in my rcsb.

Plus I really dont stomp on the gas pedal like most of you guys on here. So I'm hoping everything will hold up.

You can modify the quickness and firmness of shifts via HP Tuners...

6L80's seem to be pretty strong, plenty of new trucks in the 12's on just a CAM and bolt on's...

NOt sure about how long they last with a blower....
