Default Intake, and Exhaust Questions...

Hey guys, I have a few questions I would like to ask. I have been a member here for a quite a while, and have been out of the truck seen for a min. I have just recently bought a 2011 Sierra Z-71 CC, with a 5.3, and 6 speed.

The truck will be used as a daily driver, and also to pull my race car to the track. I was wondering what would be a good flowing muffler that is pretty quite. I was thinking a Large Magnaflow, but I am not sure as I have been out of the loop for sometime. I do not want it to be loud on the interior at all. If so what size would you suggest, and how big does the inlet, and out let need to be?

I would also like to put an intake on this thing and of course get it tuned. What intake is pretty good K&N??? I am just looking for a little extra power for towing and hopefully better MPG. Any help would be great...

Thanks,
Seth

Id suggest a 22" magnaflow, it would be nice and quiet but sound good when you get on it. K&N is a good intake. Youll find most people on here use K&N, Volant, or just build there own out of pvc.

Thanks man, thats a nice truck you have there.... So K&N is the way to go I guess. Would a 24" Magnaflow be not as loud as a 22"? Also what size inlet/outlet should I get for the muffler. I am not sure if I should get the 3" or 2.5"...

Thanks...

dont waste your money on magnaflows or flowmasters. I did and i learned it was a waste of money. i spent alot of money looking for a good exhaust and i wish i would of looked it up before i purchased a set. I went with dynatech headers with hi flow cats and a 3" corsa exhaust. Trust me any longtube headers with a 3 inch collar and corsa touring off craigslist or even here i found mine for 440$ shipped the whole set and i got my lt from stylin for 760$ shipped. good deals and K&n without oil was best flowing for me.

24" is quieter than the 22" but not by much. But also like jp said you can try other mufflers too. Exhaust sound is all a personal preference. Just know the longer/more chambers usually the quieter. Inlet id go 3", outlet depends if you do single out or dual out. I did 22" magnaflow 3" in dual 2.5" out dumped. Also if you dont mind used parts check out craiglist, ebay, or the classified sections here, you can usually find people selling what youre looking for.

I just put on a magnaflow 12589 from planet magnaflow. U can get on there website and get the specs there. Its just the perfect grumble and doesn't drone out the interior cab. Matter a fact, when windows are up and music playing, u almost cant here the rumble. I just got in a vararam tri power intake and plan on installing it when I get back from vaca. My good friend already has these items in his gmc and that's why I got these particular items.

i just got a dynomax 17776 on my 6.0, its a lil on the quiet side for me but under accel it has a nice tone to it and crusin its almost not there it doesnt even sound bad when it switches the dod on. it will sound almost stock at 1st but put it thru some heat cycles and it will come around, my friend has it on his 6.2 also, didnt kill torque like an ultra flow did when pullin his 24'box. also got a airaid tube and their drop in filter

save your money on the CAI...add a drop in filter or cone filter, put a custom tune in it, add a muffler for sound to your taste. you dont have to add LTs if you dont want them. also being that its a 5.3 you have 3" exhaust
i run a 36" magnaflow muffler its tame as a DD and nice at wot

I just have a 5.3 in my truck... I am assuming that the exhaust pipe size is different on these vs the 6.2??? Also which Corsa do you guys have?? What size case, and is it quite in the cab???

The reason why I want quiet is because the truck I just got rid of was a 97 Z-71 with some motor work, headers, intake, and dual flowmasters turned down before the axle, and I could not hear myself think in that thing... Plus in my new one, I have hands free, and I really like useing it, with out hearing the motor...
