I just bought the exact same truck. I have 800 miles on it.

The first tank of fuel I put maybe 100 miles of interstate and the rest in town. I got 13.8mpg on it hand calculated, and that was babied!

I just got back from a full interstate trip and have 400 miles on the tank. So it will average at around 18 on this tank.

I came from an 09 nbs dodge with the hemi. It averaged about 18-19 on the exact same interstate trip. I am hoping this truck gets a little better in town than the dodge, it averaged about 14.5.

I have a 2011 GMC 6.2l ext cab 4x4 with 3.73. I can't believe I'll actually say this, but this truck would be perfect with 3.42's. But I will think differently when I hook the 7000lb boat to it in a few weeks. This truck will handled bigger tires very nicely, unlike the 5.3l. But that is my opinion.

Yeah, the 3.73s work out great with the taller tires I only average around 12mpg, after 1200 miles

I have to admit I was pretty irritated when I was trying to figure out what I wanted, and discovered that I couldn't get the 14-bolt 9.5" rear end and 4-wheel disc brakes without the 3.73 gear. I thought that with the 6.2's torque, and the ratios in the 6L80 that a 3.42 would be just about ideal. I only plan on going to 285/70R17 tires on the stock 7.5" rims so that won't be an issue, and my boat is nowhere near 7,000 lb.

(Note to self: NEED A BIGGER BOAT!)

ALL 6.2 none-AWD pickup trucks, which excludes only the Sierra Denali and maybe the Escalade EXT, come with the 14-bolt and disc brakes. BrutalSierra has a 6.2, 3.42s, and the 14-bolt limited slip, which is only available with disc brakes in GMT900 trucks.

I happily admit that I don't know anything about the Sierra. I should have specified that I was talking about the Silverado 1500 4x4 ecsb, which is all I shopped for. The brochures, Chevy's online ordering system, dealer's info ... all verified the smaller rear axle, drum rear brakes and 3.42 gears with any engine including the 6.2 unless you got the Max Trailering Pack (NHT):

"includes (L9H) Vortec 6.2L V8 SFI engine, (G80) heavy-duty automatic locking rear differential, (Z85) Handling/Trailering Suspension Package, (AXN) 9.5" (24.1 cm) hybrid rear axle, (GT4) 3.73 rear axle ratio, (P46) 4 - 17" x 7.5" (43.2 cm x 19.1 cm) 6-lug aluminum wheels, (QJP) P265/70R17 on-/off-road blackwall tires, (T96) fog lamps, (JD9) front and rear disc brakes and (Z82) Trailering package (Requires C*10753 or C*10543 models. CK10543 and CK10753 Models also include (NQH) electronic Autotrac transfer case. Option content within this package may not be substituted or deleted. Not available with (Z71) Off-Road Suspension Package.)"

You can get the disc and 3.42 without NHT, my 2011 6.2 Z71 4x4 has them. Just went and look has AXN on glove box.... So it was possible

Well, just because I couldn't do it, I guess that doesn't mean it's not possible. A good lesson for me!
