Default Limits to the NNBS 6 speed?

It seems like its a love/hate thing for the new 6 speed from what I have read. I'm trying to figure out what the weakest link is to the 6 speeds. Are there ANY mods that can beef it up anything from cooling to performance? What can these handle in stock form on the conservative side? Should getting a tune help prolong the life of the transmission? Thanks in advance!

A good tune is going to be the biggest key factor into them living the longest. Along with a tune is keeping them cool so a good trans coller will do nothing but help ya. (I still need to pick up one but I am lucky in that the ambient air never gets all that hot here in Alaska).

A lot of it has to do with your driving habits. Going from a dig up through the gears is a lot easier on it than going 65 and stomping it WOT and it shifting from 6th gear down the 3rd.

I never had it dynoed but I would safely assume I was pushing over 400 to the tires before in my truck and never once had an issue and I am far from easy on my truck. Plenty of burnouts and WOT runs but I still tried to be smart about it when I decided to open it up.

After all the mods in my sig are installed and the tune is dialed in I would like to think I will be over 500 to the tires and creaping up on te 600 mark when we pulley it down some. Will let ya know how it holds up as we keep moving the bar up little by little.

Lots of people pushing lots of power to them. 62Naldie was pushing tons through his. He lost a couple motors but to my knowledge his transmission held up through all of it (correct me if I am wrong.)

Tune helps. And you said on the stock side. I dont exactly know what that means i guess. But im assuming bolt ons only no boost. Id say it would be fine. But like said already driving habbits count for a lot. You can toast a tranny with zero done to the motor if your driving it wrong. But if your doing tune exaust intake cai and even a cam with exception of a different converter id say youd be ok on the stock trans.

I also put some power through my 6l80e when I had my turbo 6.2 setup and in 4wd with hard launches every weekend and my trans is still good but like said before, it takes good tuning and good cooling. Also like said before driving habits. Every time I ran I would maybe run 1 or 2 times and shut it down and just cruise. But these trans are still a little weird. They are kinda hit and miss still tho, some last with 700hp and some blow up at 400. To me it seems like it is luck of the draw. I really can't wait for the aftermarket to make these handle as much as the stout 4l80Es.
