Looking for some real numbers or vid after 4.88
I have a 2010 ext 4x4 with 4.8/ 4l60 and I plan on changing out the gears to a 4.56 or 4.88. Ive got a cam, long tubes, stall, tune currently but want to improve from my factory 3.42. The I have a leveling kit and plan on running a 285/70-17 tire so nothing crazy there. I am looking for better acceleration and take load off the trans when I'm playing around/ towing. I am trying to find a accell vid or first hand exp with with a similar setup to see how it will be. I am really leaning toward the 4.88 and bumping my shift point to 6500 which will keep me in the engines sweet spot. I know at 70 with my 265 tire I show be around the 2400 rpm range which I am fine with. Any comments vids are much appreciated.

I'm not sure what you are asking. With 4.88s the acceleration will definitely be there. Of course, I am a lover of big cam, gear, and converter. If you are concerned with driveability, then keep the truck in 3rd with your current gears to get an idea. That should be an equivalent to a 4.96 gear if my math is correct. Of course this is only relavent at highway speeds.

I am just trying to find someone that has a setup similar to mine that went to a 4.56 or 4.88. Not to concerned about highway since I normally keep it in 3rd when towing now on the freeway to keep the stress off the trans. I think I'm just going to buy the 4.88 and install them around Xmas. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yeah I'm curious to i wanted 4.88 and i have a 34'' tire but i do a lot of mixed driving and didn't want my hwy mpg to dump to around 10 mpg so I'm going with 4.56 i know it'll my hwy mpg will still fall but i have to do something with these have tires and rims if i could see re world with 4.88 i might throw them back into the mix lol. Plus Who wouldn't want bigger gears??
