the entire purpose of a test is to see if there is a difference. if there isn't well it was only two screws. if there is well there is and people can make an educated decision. i really don't think it will net me any real difference but i'm curious to find out.

 

It would be cool if there is no difference. Then it is a part I can leave in the garage before a long on/off road trip without any impact whatsoever during highway jogs. Not that I would bring it along just to swap on and off, but it is nice to know that you aren't making things any worse.

I'll bet it does make a difference. If that valance cost gm $10 to make and mount per truck, for no difference what so ever, compounded by the thousands of trucks they make, thats a lot of wasted effort and money in r&d instilation and warranty work. Then again it could explain their financial situation....

Had a buddy who had a neon he drove only on the highway, he added a length of that black plastic landscape edging stuff under the front bumper about 2" off the ground and pop riveted it to the already existing valance.. got 2mpg better performance out of it..

With my truck lowered i am looking to get another lower lower valance and put back on the truck, I am going to say that it is on there for a reason if GM put it there.. and not just to catch curbs...

IF anyone has a spare GMC lower lower valance laying around im in the market for a cheap one.. mine got torn off in a flood..

 

well i sat in some really nasty traffic this afternoon and saw right at 17 mpg. i had to work for that number. it was at 16.2 and i started making an effort and it ended up at 17 after about 70 miles. that is about 1 mpg less than with the valance. this could have been due to the traffic. i will be back out on the highway tonight after all the traffic clears. might try to fill up and test again before hitting the road.

 

traffic has not allowed me to get good solid numbers yet. i'll update when i am able to provide legit numbers.

 

alright i got some numbers. they don't make sense but it's what they are! 18.8. so it went up with out the valance. i'm thinking one of two things or both. either the valance does nothing for us or my truck is getting better with a few miles. just rolled 1100 or so miles and it's still breaking in. i think i'll try this test again down the road after more breaking in

 

Might be too short of a test to show much, plus you're probably right about it still breaking in. Thanks for keeping us up to date!
