Default Motor Questions

Ok, I have a 08 GMC Sierra with 5.3. What is the designation for that motor, LH6, LY6, LS6 or what? How big of a cam can I put in it with the factory heads. I have the option to buy a set of LS6 Corvette heads that have been worked by MTI. They are the stage ll r heads, ported and polished with 205.5 intake and 160.0 exh valves. 58cc and Patriot dual gold springs. Would this be a good fit on a motor in which I plan on putting a cam in? This would strictly be a street application. Thanks

the heads would help a lot. the cam is based on gears/converter you want to DD. i understand everyones taste in this area is different but i like the smaller cams that DD better and produce about the same HP/TQ as the big cams. i dont think you can go wrong with a spec'd cam.

The truck is just a cruiser that I want to run strong, i really want the truck to sound good. There will be no drag racing, just 30-60 rolling starts on occasion.

I looked at putting my 243 heads with 2.02/1.57 valves in them onto my 5.3 awhile back. From what I measured, the valves were 3.72" across. Fitting them atop the 5.3's 3.78" bore left a mere .03" to the bore edge, and that was if everything lined up perfectly. I decided against it.

Using heads with 2.055/1.60" valves will make the risk of the valves touching the cylinder wall even greater. I wouldn't risk it. I'd say that 2.00" intake valves would be the max you'd want to use. I think anything more is overkill anyways.

^^^ good point.

if you want a highway roller then put a supercharger/turbo/procharger. thats the only thing thats going to run strong from a 55-60 punch. bc if you are starting at the mph then that means a 120-140 stopping mph. i shut mine down at 110 thats fast enough and **** on the highway dumb enough. also mine isnt the stock 5.3/60e combo anymore and i still shut it down

If I were to build a highway roll-on beast, I'd stick a turbo on that 5.3. I love the Magnusen for stoplight kills though.

Is there plenty of room for a intercooled front mount system? One of the guys who started Boost Logic is a close friend, we have talked about doing a custom system.
