I can drop first at what ever mph I tell the computer I want to do it at...

If its not going into 1st from a stop and it starting in second gear, then there is a mechanical issue. Check your Linkages as mentioned including the indicator switch. If this doesn't solve your problem Let the trans guy trouble shoot it.
