If it only on cold starts it maybe a little piston noise. My has a little piston noise but its nothing to worry about. Lifters I would get new one.

Yeah. You take it in so the dealer can waste your time and give you the run around until you either sell it, burn it, or mile it until it is off warranty.... then they offer to fix it for more than the cost of the truck!

In all seriousness just take the truck to a dealer, tell them what issue you have and they should take care of you.

Thanks guys. It's at temp when he does it. I do run 91 octane in it. I don't see any carbon build up around the manifold so I don't think it's a exhaust leak.

Mine used to tick only at start up under 50 degrees. The 10w40 RP took care of that noise. Now the damn dash is rattling, just turned up the radio to fix that !

Iv been thinking of switching all my fluids to RP. That doesn't void a warranty right? Excuse the dumb questions, first time with a warranty. My 97 ha well over 200k miles

RP meets the Dexos requirements with the 5w30 for sure. No warranty issues there. But I could not stand the damn rattling at start up so i bumped up to 10w40. No more rattle at start up. Been using RP in everything for many years. Great products but expensive.
