oil pressure
okay so this past weekend i changed my oil in my truck. Since the change, i have noticed that my oil pressure seems to be higher than it was before.
In my first oil change i used all of 6 quarts and I didnt notice any change in the pressure. This is time i used about 5 and 1/2 and my gauge seems to be reading a little higher number than befor while crusing. now again i didnt really pay attention to my gauge before but i know for a fact that it wasnt as high as it is now. what i am using is Royal purple 10w-30. another thing to add where i am at right now i havent seen tempurature above 50 for a good two weeks some have gone down to the 20's..does this have anything to do with it? and final question how much pressure can these new trucks take before its bad.

i run purple 10w-30 only because i'm over 100k. you should probably be running 5-30 since your truck is new. yes, the low temperatures will thicken the oil. the pressure is safe until the truck freaks out (codes). on a serious note, the oil pressure gauge is the best judge of what is safe for your truck. just keep an eye on it, royal purple seems to thin out a little bit over the first few hundred miles. as long as the pressure stays below 65-70 psi (that's about 3/4 up on my gauge) then you should be good. FWIW my oil pressure is about 42 at idle at 70 degrees ambient temperature.

i know its not the oil itslef doing it, i was just wondering if there was a a real problem i was looking at here. there seems a to be a light at the end of the tunnel now! it reading about 45 to 50 at crusing an about 40-42 at idle. it just seems everytime i look at it, it has never read that high. im guessing it is due to the cold temperatures and not something serious.
