You're not going to get many replies on engine rebuilds in this sub-forum. Try internal engine modifications sub-forum. Start by searching for 4.8 rebuilds or mild upgrade build, etc... before starting a new thread. Once you've exhausted the search and you're still left with questions, make an appropriate titled thread with more specific questions. That is the best advice I can give.

A rebuild is not a project to be taken lightly. There are literally thousands of different ways that you could choose to rebuild your engine. You need to be armed with the knowledge to at least be able to narrow your criteria and decide on exactly what you want this build to accomplish (budget, time, power goals, drivability, RPM range, supporting mods, future plans, etc., etc., etc). Otherwise, you should just consider turning the job over to a professional and writing a check.

if you cant find a 6.0 then just go 5.7 with your 4.8 block. reuse your heads, have them p&p throw a bigger cam in it and bam you have an iron LS1.

you can find forged pistons for about 500 from sdparts.com also rods and so on can be had for about that price or a tad more.

am i wrong or not. souldnt he be able to use any gen iv 6.0 with a 58x reluctor ring and relocated knock sensors from an nbs model since he is a 4.8 which i dont believe has dod but it would pry have vvt (not sure when they started that)

ive thought bout that since my 2010 is a 4.8. when the day comes and i wana go bigger

his 4.8 is a gen iv....same short block as the gen iv 6.0 so your theory on the knock sensors is wrong unless you try to install the gen iv motors in a gen iii truck. but good info if he had a gen iii

his motor doesnt have dod, nor would it have vvt as they didnt put vvt in the 4.8 unless im wrong on that one...

as an 07 4.8 in the gmt-900 section, that's taken as the gen iv motor.

that came across wrong on the knock sensors i was tring to say any block that they werent under the intake should be a gen iv. sorry .mines a 10 4.8and has vvt but no dod but if he found one that had either of these or both it shouldnt be to hard to eliminate after all ther is a massive amount of knowledge here just got to read till your cross eyed

It would probably be worth your while to contact Thompson Motorsports, they are a sponsor on here. I'm sure they could help you out as the have a ton of 6.0 blocks laying around. Been there, really good guys with good customer support

the 3.9 bore is the 5.7 bore basically an iron LS1.

for 1700 that better be a forged LS1 basically and all you have to do is swap your heads over throw a specd cam in it and put it in your truck
