Default Question on 2009 Trucks

Question:

So, I see that you can get the VMax which is the L76 6.0L AFM and VCT. Avaliable in 1LT and in CC or EC. I currently have an '08 VMax Z71. But, the idea of the 6L80 has been making me thing about trading the truck in.

You can also get the 6.2L L99 in the LTZ. It also has AFM and VCT. What I am wondering is how you would specify all the Max Trailering options with the 6.2. In other words can you order an LTZ with the Max Trailering package and get the 6.2L instead of the 6.0L?

My suspicion is the you just probably order the LTZ withthe 6.0L and order a heavy duty trailering package, but its not the VMax package. But i have not confirmed that.

2010, yes.

2009, I'm not sure if you could get that combo or not. Not that it matters, because GM stopped taking orders for 09's months ago. I guess you could do a dealer inventory search and see if one pops up.

All the 2010 info I have seen shows that GM has dropped the 6.0 from the 1500 lineup completely. The 6.2 is now standard on all Vmax's. 2010 production starts up mid-October.

2010, the L76 is toast. You either have the L9H 6.2L, LC9 5.3L, LMG 5.3L, L20 4.8L or LU3 4.3L.

You can get the L9H 6.2L on a LTZ/SLT Crew Cab as long as you get the 6L80e (MYC).

Otherwise, you can only get it with the NHT max trailering package. And it's only available on extended cab 6.5' box or crew cab 5.8' box. You can't piece your own together like you could in 2009.

So it looks like the 6.0's days are numbered? Are the HD's going to the 6.2 as well?

6.0 is done in half ton trucks. The cast iron 6.0L is still around in 3/4 ton and up.

This might be a dumb question but why didn't they drop the 4.8L and keep the 6.0L? Then make the 6.0L the "standard" engine. I also read that you will be able to get the 6.2L in a GMC SLE for 2010. I will be looking hard at buying one of those when they come out.

4.8L is the fuel miser of the bunch. The 6.0L/6 speed made sense since it got similar mileage as the 5.3L/4 speed. Now the 5.3L got the 6 speed also (in everything) rather than just crew cabs.

Looking at the sheets it appears with 2010 production that you can only get the 6.2L "build as you want it" in Denalis, crew/extended standard LTZs, crew/extended standard SLTs, and LT and SLE crew/extended standard with the NHT package.

Same reason they don't put an LS3 in a Solstice... fuel economy and practicality. We already know how well the SRT10 Ram sold...
