Smoked tails and Painted Bow Tie's
Well, yesterday I was on pt net searchin around and say several vehicles with painted bow ties and smoked tails. I thought it sounded easy enough and there were some good writeups. Went to the store, got some sand paper, (600g) and (2000g), tape, meguires ultimate compound, blue shop towels, duplicolor clear coat, fusion paint and a can of nite shades by vht.
The front bow tie was easy, popped it out, wet sanded with 600 to dull it, cleaned and shot it with the black fusion paint, about 4 coats. That stuff dries quick!!
Rear bow tie, removed with fishing line, well, almost..... I was almost all the way through it and lightly pulled on one side with my hand and broke it!!!! So instead of buying a replacement to paint, I masked off the chrome border on the base emblem, removed tailgate and coved it. Then I scuffed the inner area that I wanted black with 600 grit as on the front bow tie and prepped to paint. I laid about 4 coats on the rear as well, let it sit for 30 mins or so and pulled the tape. It turned out good (especially considering I broke the gold emblem...lol).
Finally I pulled the tail lights, scuffed them down with 600g and prepped for paint. I followed the directions on the can, 3 light coats. It dries very quick. I didn't like the satin look so I shot 3 coats of clear on and let it dry overnight. This morning I looked pulled them out of the shed. They looked good, had a little trash in them but no biggie. Wet sanded with the 2000g and hand polished with Meguiars ultimate compound, and WOW. They are slick as glass!!! Whatcha guys think?

Nice job man! My tails are really faded and I have wanted to try the VHT stuff I have seen. You did a great job which makes me want to get out and do the same to my truck!

Thanks guys, my next plans are removing the lenses off the headlights and painting in there and the 3rd brake light. Been thinking about de-badging. Also am going to remove grille and bumper insert and paint to match body. I also either wanna paint the rear bumper or get a roll pan for it.
