Default Starting the tear down

Ok tomorrow Im starting the tear down on my motor project. Im doing a cam with a DOD delete, new heads, LS2 intake full exhaust with LT's and a 3000 stall. The new heads already have the springs installed and I have a friend who knows what he's doing for the cam install. What do I need to watch out for as i tear it down. I want to avoid making too many mistakes. Thanks

Be careful on reinstalling the crank pulley, you have to get it up on there where more than just a couple of threads are starting if you are using your old bolt to install it. Other than that, straight-forward. Make sure you don't get any wires or crap in between the heads and the block while reinstalling, follow the torque specs and roll on!

just stick your crank pulley in the oven at 230 degrees for about 20 minutes

how about draining the water outta the block and cleaning out the bolt holes with air? how about changin to a LS2 wedge style timing chain tensioner? how about upgrading to ARP cam bolts, cam plate bolts, head bolts, crank bolt? how about making sure the head gasket material is cleaned off the heads/block? how about making sire no water got on the cylinders?

There are a lot of things to consider when doing this. When I was first thinking of doing it I thought of it as a weekend project. After it was all said and done it took 6 weeks. But I went a little over the top. There are still many things to consider doing even if it is a quick project.

For sure upgrade to a Iwis timing chain. Change over to the LS2 style timing dampener and all ARP bolts. You will need the correct oil pump O-Ring too. When the cam is pulled out take a good look at the bearings. My engine had 60K on it and showed some bearing wear. And I only use synthetic oil that is changed religiously. At this point I installed new Dura Bond cam bearing. I saw a nice increase in oil pressure. Premium push rods are a must and of course lifters and the center cover.

Why the LS2 intake? Is the cam made for this intake? The stock truck intake is no joke. It has a great power band and with the right cam it is just awsome.

I originally wanted the intake for the looks and it was the one that I could bolt my throttle body to. I ended up buying one that was ported, I will be running the Corvette style coil covers as well.

I think that the LS2 intake might not fit with the truck water pump in stock form. The connections might need to be modified.

yeah the water pump is different. easy fix is to cut and splice the radiator hose or just spend the cash on the car water pump.

+1 on the wedge style chain tensioner... my stocker was broke when swapped cams... so i got the wedge style

the ls2 intake will make less power than your truck intake too btw
