tailshaft to slip yolk play

tailshaft to slip yolk play
Hey all,
I have been fighting this issue for a while now. I once thought it was my u-joints but have determined that it indeed is my tailshaft to slip yolk. Issue I found is there is quite a bit of rotational play between the two. I would guess this is the result of the slip yolk constantly clunking to the tailshaft. I am wondering if it is more likely the yolk need replacement or if it actually is the tailshaft being worn out. I want to do a new trans this summer but funds and time control that. I would hope the tailshaft is made from harder material over the yolk but theres my second question to you.
Any help is appreciated.

The best thing to do would be remove it and inspect the splines on the output shaft and the yoke. If your planning a new trans budget a touch higher and just replace both at the same time!

Yeah. I will have to take a peak at it. But I drive a lot for work and I guess I am more worried of it breaking when I'm in the middle of Chicago Traffic or something.
Is it common though for these things to wear out? I have a friend that said he sees it all the time but this is the first I am hearing of it.
Also, One thing I have been wondering is where do people go looking for a used 4l80E trans? Is there a specific year range to go for? What about body style? I would assume it doesnt matter and I hear people getting them from vans but just curious. I still want to know what engineer thought it was good to use these leaf springs.
