Would it be better for him to hold off on a cam until he goes forced induction? Idk but I thought that there are cams designed to be optimal with supercharged applications (I assume that's the route he'll take) n/a or turbo applications.
Does your truck have VVT? I know I've seen quite a few people more knowledgeable than I condemn utilizing VVT when "camming" ones vehicle but it seems to me that it would help with low end power more than a nonVVT.
I agree with what most everyone else said- 3200 stall. You won't regret it
Idk much about it but I read a few things here and there and the consensus seemed to be that Underdrive pulleys don't really do much. Probably not as useless as a throttle body spacer but I believe one person actually grouped those 2 together when talking about their use.

The 4.8L Ive played with got a custom grind cam (unknown specs) has some go its got longtubes, underdrive pulley, intake, true dual with x-pipe all 3" along with a 3200 stall and ported T-body
Correct me if I'm wrong on any of that.
