Tr224 in a 4.8

At the very least I would do the 9.5" or 10" 3600rpm torque converter and 4.10 gears. Of course you need LT headers and a tune. If you install those then the truck would be pretty fun to drive. If you install a 278mm (11 inch) converter, you might have fun for awhile, but will soon enough want more converter. Might as well do it right the first time.

You'll probably need a few gaskets and seal here and there if you break one. The water pump gaskets are prone to break easy. You will need a new crank bolt also which is $5 or so. You might as well get a vette servo to install on the transmission while you are getting the converter installed. Its a $10-$15 part that you could install yourself, as you don't need to go inside of the main part of the trans to install it.

If you want to upgrade your air intake from the one with all the mufflers and restrictions, get an Airaid MIT (replaces the tube) or Airaid Jr (MIT + high-flow drop-in filter; I went with a dry synthetic element).
