Default Tranny Swap Question

Quick tranny question, will a 6-spd tranny out of one of the new Escalades mate to my 5.3L for a direct fit or does it take some modifying?

It will bolt up but the computer is a whole other deal. A few places are trying to get something togather so we can have such a transmission swapped in.

My first choice would be the 4l80e over the 6l80e for reasons James B has posted, but given the fact that you are NNBS I indeed would consider buying the 6l80e. A member here swapped a 4l80e into an NNBS and is still having electrical issues. I'll predict that in a couple years a 6l80e swap into an early NNBS will be commonplace. So if you can get one now for a killer deal and store it I'd go ahead and do it.

Sure enough speartech did the install in an 01' Silverado and managed to sort out the wiring with no problems so big boost of confidence since my truck is NNBS anyway should be easy install (by easy meaning not too many hurdles). I think I might go through with it afterall and see what I can find out from speartech about what they could do for me maybe on help with my wiring. A 6-spd is a tempting offer. Let me get a 2nd opinion but what do you guys consider a good deal on a 6l80e from an Escalade?

Do it! Be our guineau pig. I guess Wide Open already did it, along with a 6.2 and awd in a NBS RCSB, but I don't think I've seen him on here lately. I'd think a good deal on a 6L80E would be around $1500 bones.

He's asking $1500 for it and I'm hoping to pick it up for $1000 though but the downside to it is that I'd like to keep my 4l60e and beef it up a little but he wants a core swap, my tranny for his (he runs a business not just a private seller).

are the new 6 speeds strong? have tranny shops like FLT or Performa built started building them. a six speed would be bad *** but i don't know if i would trust it to hold.
