one behind a LS motor... look for the cooler lines...
the one you need has the color lines side by side and not one on top of another
the newer the better.. even though supposedly the older ones were stronger... i found one out of like an 02 with 80K and i paid like 700
Rear ¼" Pipe Return/in
Front ¼" Pipe Cooler feed/out

"Which trans for 500rwhp"
You need to figure in these factors:
-Horsepower
-Torque
-Weight
-Converter
-Gears
-Wheel/Tires
It's usually not horsepower that breaks stuff, it's the torque.
A tooth pick can handle 500hp, but whats on the end of that tooth pick - thats the factor...
Also, what kind of horsepower/torque are we talking about? N/A, Nitrous, S/C, T/C? They are all different, they all hit and come on differently.
EDIT: of course temp. also.

I spent 3k on a locally built 60e with 5 pinion planet and t/c and it busted over the weekend hauling a boat. So I vote on 80e which is whats going in my new to me truck as soon as the waranty dies + steel shaft and tru tac.

I'd say go with the 4l80e. I did the swap in August on my 08 RCSB. Found a used 80e with 8000 miles on it out of an 07 van. I used the stock converter and it stalls about 2300. Also I installed a Transgo HD2 reprograming kit (I like firm shifts).
08+ 3/4 and 1 ton vans have the 4l80e (and 4l85e) and the T42 trans controller. I used a stock tune from an EXPRESS VAN. There is a write up that gives you all you need to do with a GMT900. The stock van tune needed tweeking. It worked but shifted a little early from 1-2 and 3-4.
My stock 4l60e lasted about 8,000 miles after the supercharger install. I am likely 400 HP or less at the wheels (no cam or headers yet). I race every weekend and tow.
