Default Truck revs and stalls when opening the fuel cap

hey guys its been happening for a week now, at first i thought it would happen once or twice.. when i pull up at the gas station i leave my truck running and open my fuel cap the truck revs and stalls.. and when i try to start it i have to try once or twice.. i also tried to shut off the truck before opening the fuel cap, when i try starting it when i put the cap back on.. i need to crank it once or twice as well..

does it have trouble starting if you turn the truck off before you take the gas cap off?

Smoking a cigarette while filling up would be a much safer alternative

I've only had to fill up my truck with it on a handful of times because I had thrown in a cam without a tune yet haha. Was a bitch to get it to idle again if I shut it off.

please explain the danger in leaving a car running while filling up a gas tank. tank in back, motor in front. its not like im trying to fill a generator while it's running.

Yeah as long as you aren't dripping on a hot exhaust you should not be at any risk. I have fueled my truck while running every time I've fueled it since day one. Some of the pumps I use at work have no auto shutoff, so I've gotten in the habit of fueling while running so I can watch the gauge. Yeah I could have left the key in the accessory position, but it was quicker to just pull up, jump out, fuel while watching the gauge, and get going again asap. They fuel race cars while running with no problems, the only thing they do is keep the fuel from splashing onto hot components such as the exhaust. If it works in such an extreme situation, you should be just fine pumping gas into your truck at the local Chevron without shutting it off.

Now, as far as the vehicle issue: the OP originally stated that if he turns the vehicle off prior to opening the gas cap, he has to crank it a time or two before the truck starts. Then a couple posts later he says it has no issues if he shuts it off while fueling.
