Tune vs Warranty
#31
CAI or exhaust will not cause failure, however, a bad tune can quickly and easily kill your engine. I will only go in for a warranty claim on my engine if it is something obviously not tune-related (like the oil pump mentioned earlier, or an obvious defect in workmanship).

I've been all through these trucks with gm TAC and our tech 2. If the all stock tune is present you are good to go. They do not have capability of reading past tune history even on the 2012 truck platforms.
However you can damm well bet there is a gm engineer lurking somewhere on here reading all these posts regarding way's around it so they are going to cornhole us on the next generation of truck pcms

and before long the trucks will have the same
setup as Camaro's etc that log calibration changes
enjoy it while it lasts

I absolutely believe that somewhere out there there's a guy (or guys) with the software and hardware to tune his truck, who thinks that 90* of spark advance will give him more horsepower with 87 octane gas. Count on it. Therefore, there is no wonder that the manufacturers are trying to contain his enthusiasm to have his warranty cover his crank, pistons, head and labor when his motor does an IED imitation.
It's kinda like the guy who thinks he should be able to ram a 6" curb at 60 mph and not break anything ...

I love the burn at the end
Exactly my thoughts. If the tune causes damage, the owner or tuner needs to be on the hook. If a manufacturing defect or part failure caused the damage, however, the manufacturer needs to cover it, tune or no tune.

A friendly service manager is good to know, but when the zone rep legitimately denies an otherwise covered failure owing to “aftermarket modifications,” you’re on your own.
Upside is the OE ~325-horsepower 5.3 LMG pulls pretty well when compared with my former L05 TBI turd, lol.
