Tune vs Warranty
#41
So this thread leads me to believe that it's still a toss up. Most people swear that gm will never know but no one at gm is actually going to tell us. And I would guess that if they find any shred of a tune, you're not getting that engine work done under warranty.
But if I side with the majority opinion here for a moment, would the Autocal flash me back to stock for a trip to the dealer? Or is there a certain tuning software that is "more better" than others?

It should, as long as your full factory tune was saved to the Autocal prior to tuning. I have been to the dealer a couple times without any worries; the only way I would reload the factory tune is if there was a powertrain failure.

Mitchell or Alldata, but you would need a password.
The dealer could tell you if you get the right person.
I had on 04 with a Radix that ended up at the dealer for something. They flashed it for some tranny updates which also overwrote my blower tune, and when I picked up the truck it would barely run.
The kicker was the new oe flash was somehow based on a newer base setup than the tune that came with the blower and I couldn't reload my blower tune. I had to send the handheld back to Magnason for an update. I forget the exact details but it was a pita.

Any more information on this? I'm looking to Autocal soon and trying to double check my self before I potentially void (or not void) my warranty with an autocal.
I did some looking around today and found this topic on a tbss forum where one guys who appears to be a GM Tech says this (I combined multiple posts, just pulled out the good stuff):

We can see the last 10 CVNs changes that have been flashed. No you cant flash the same calibration 10 times to run out the history either. It records the CVN change not the last 10 flashes which makes it even harder to hide. The modules do store that info. I even posted a screenshot of it in one of the other CVN threads.
In addition GM knows if the modules have been updated off the Tis system. If there are more CVNs stored than they have reflashes on file for that VIN, they got ya there too.

I've got a buddy who have a 2012 Tahoe w/26's and wants to get a tune but the warranty issue comes up,so what would y'all do in the situation cuz he doesn't have a way to put it back stock for service.
