Default Upgrade on lighting question

I can imagine that there has already been some discussion in this area, BUT, I want to upgrade my 2011 Sierra's headlights and foglights to HID lighting. Has anyone done this and what did you use on each set of lights?
Also, did you use external wiring harnesses to take the load off of your factory wiring?

I already have a set of HIDs that I was going to install in my wife's car. They are the same number as the low beams on the Sierra. I want to go further with this and do the others too.

I used the digital ballast and its plug and play since it does draw as many amps thru the factory harness

I have ddm tuning slim ballast in both my vehicles. I do have the relay harness on both. Suggest disabling the daytime running lights so you don't take out the ballast.

I have the turnagainhighlights HID kits the H11s in my lows 9005 highs and 5202 fogs. Oh and had the same ones in my 09 Sierra crew cab with the H13s in my revers lights. The kits were all plug and play and didnt require an external harness. Also the kits voltage range is a lot better then most, helping them last with day time running lights.

What I can see with the DRLs, is that if you use the wiring harness, the only issue is what voltage do you put to the relays that turns the lights on. The low voltage to the headlights no longer exists. The ballasts would only see the power that comes from the battery.

However, I am not a fan of the DRLs in any way.

My HIDS are from Kryptonbulbs.com HID kits, Blue Headlights, Quality Products and I do not use any sort of harness. Low beams come on as DRLs no problem, every time. I definitely recommend kryptonbulbs products, i love my headlights. For what its worth, I switched to them from DDM

Any reason you switched from DDM?

I have HID fogs and lows; relay on the lows and pulled the DRL fuses. 2 years now no problems.

Can anyone define why one should spend $200.00 a set for the lights from a organization like Turn Again High Lights and not spend the cheaper amount at DDM Tuning? I know the old addage about you get what you pay for, but many say that DDM Tuning works real well for them and they did not go broke spending the money on the product.

DDM probably will work well, but there's a lot of personal accounts of them failing, but they sell way more volume, so the incidence of failure is proportionally higher. You can also buy two sets of the DDM kits for what a "higher-end" HID kit costs, so if one fails you still come out ahead. And there's no guarantee the "high-end" kit isn't also made in china.

For what it's worth, I bought an "expensive" kit with parts from Philips, and never had a complaint. My only experience with DDM is running a pair of their bulbs for a short amount of time, and other than the colour being off from what I wanted, I had no complaints about them either.
