Default weight difference-- anyone know...

the difference in the stock 17's that came on the 07 4x2 trucks(tires included) vs the factory 20's(tires included). I swapped my cousin even and thought I got a good deal. They look great but may have shot myself in the foot at the dragstrip.

The stock 17 inch steel wheels with the stock 245 series General tires that I took off my truck weighed 65 pounds each. Assuming you had the aluminum wheels with the same stock tires they would be a little less. Factory 20s with the 275/55/20 tires weigh around 80lbs each give or take a pound. So a gain of about 17-20 pound per wheel combo. 20 x 4 = 80 lbs rotational mass.

I can second this, right on the money for 2007 Sierra wheels as well. You can feel the difference but the trucks look so much better with the 20's.

There is an interesting question. How much performance does loosing 5 lbs or 10 lbs per wheel get you. Anyone here put in some before and after wheel swap runs on the track?

Tarinitup posted a .5 second difference going from 20's to stock 16's. I have seen similar times from other people.

Losing rotational mass is much more effective than dead weight. every 100lbs of dead weight is ~.1s in the quarter. i have heard losing rotational mass can be 4x as affective.

here is a thread from a few months ago, he gained a full second

My truck gained .6's with weight reduction, Airraid(open filter, stock tube), magnaflow catback

I went from 16.04 bone stock to 15.4

weight reduction was as follows
no spare
no tailgate
lighter wheels 50lbs(same diameter)

So with minor mods and weight reduction i made decent gains.

Wow thats a huge gain for sure (the full second), but its not just weight as rear tire diameter went from 32" to 28" (he says in thread) which is the same as adding more gearing to the rear...that helps as well. None the less weight is a huge thing to keep an eye on, and these great looking big wheels do kick you in the head performance wise.

No doubt. Wish I had my factory 17's now for comparison.

What kind of tires do you have? I weighed my 265 on factory 17s and they weigh 65 lbs too.
