Default What are these for?

Sorry for the crappy picture...Does anyone know whats the use of these things, they seem to be welded to the front part of the chassis behind the tow hooks. I see them as unnecessary weight

GM calls them car compatibility brackets. They are intended to prevent the truck from ramping up a car in a head-on collision. It can be seen on Chevy's webpage. http://www.chevrolet.com/silverado/safety/

I read on another forum that was a bucket to place a jack, but who knows.

Scroll down and it shows them in green, they are for preventing truck going over another vehicle in a crash as mentioned above.

Hell ive been waiting to find out what those was after i did my body lift. Guess ill be pulling out the torch tomorrow. But then again since i dont have use of my front tow hooks anymore guess ill improvise those thing-a-ma jigs
