i ain't checked, but does anybody offer HID lamps with the same bases as the HIR bulbs? i know they're a little different that the normal 9005 or 9006.

could be that you might have to do the opposite of the HIR upgrade procedure...

the guys that put HIRs in the 9006 & 9005 spots have to shave parts of the tabs down on the HIR base. maybe you'll be able to fit a 9006/5 HID lamp in there & then wedge it in place. it's cheap & easy to try with a standard bulb out of somebody else's truck first. just a thought...

and didn't some Avalanches come with stock HIRs - like the original GMT800 models without the Silverado front end? you could check out the Avalanche forums & see what they do

well I know that a 9006 will work but the tab has to be shaved. the HIR is a 9012. if I cant find a 9012 ill order the 9006 kit.

I agree ^^^^^ I have a 2011 Silverado 1500 with reflectors and 55w HID's with the housing adjusted down so as to NOT to blind oncoming traffic. Works perfect and the light spread of the HID's compared to the halogen is hugely beneficial. To all those that say don't put HID's in a reflector they have a valid point ONLY if you don't consider adjusting ,,,, but if adjusted properly your reflectors with HID's are amazing and no need for a projector upgrade. Personally I prefer the look of projectors but for now I'm more than fine with the afore mentioned setup.
