Default My review of the AFE intake With dyno results.

so i ordered the AFE CAI for my truck off ebay for 260 new and got it on thrusday. Friday after work i strapped my truck up on the dyno to get a baseline BONE STOCK on 20s. truck has 2200 miles. 3 runs 1 of them was 317rwhp and the other two were 318HP. back to back. 3rd gear pulls (my tuner says thats the best way to pull these trucks) i did however make a hit in 4th gear and only made 302rwhp because my speed limiter maxed out befor peak HP but the power curve was healthy. my torques were in the 350-360 range. So then i installed the intake right there on the dyno and made two more hits NOW with the AFE installed. same exact numbers. 318 360. just alot nosier. i think it will help with a tune tho which im getting this week. some things i like about it are the tube because its powdercoated, and getting rid of the ugly factory baffle system was worth it alone. Some things i dont like about it is that its not sealed, it does not fit very well on the stock lower becasue they only use 3 of the for mounting holes causing an un snug fit on the bottom front corner since the tube is about an inch too short it pulls the whole box assembly tward the motor to make up the distance causing the foam against the fender duct not to seal, talk about cheesey for the money, oh and they give you weather strip to put on the heatsheild to make a sealed fit on the hood and its not even close to touching the hood. Also i lost a tenth off my 1/4 mile time. so i dont recomend this intake to anyone looking for a high quality factory fit. im going to modify the tube to fit the stock airbox and ditch the cheesy filter and heatsheild. just thought id share.

Sucks it doesn't fit well and I'm very surprised that it didn't gain anything. I did a volant intake on my 09 5.3

bone stock = 266hp 295tq
10 mins later with intake = 278hp 320tq
gained 11hp 25tq to the tire on the dyno.

I would hope the 14s would show similar or better gains even untuned like I did

I wasn't very happy with the AFE intake either... I wrote the company to bitch about the short tube (same as yours) and they said they're all the same length and fit fine on their test vehicle... I said " well it doesn't fit for **** on mine" and they sent me a replacement tube, I haven't had time to try that tube yet but will asap.

I didnt have a wideband in to log AF. but in 4th gear it pulled up to the 110mph limiter. im curious to see how the tune acts with the intake. right now to me it is not worth the money

IMO to get the best out of an intake is to be boxed in not opened, also plastic is better than chrome metal intakes and port the throttle body. And of corse a tune.

I've considered closing the top of my afe box to see what IATs do, wouldn't take a lot to do it.

I like the steel tube so I can drill it for a nozzle once I get to that point

i thought about that too. today i tried to mock up my factory upper back on so the whole box is stock but the tube has to be cut which wouldnt be a problem if the angles were not so different, but then theres also the issue with the one extra maf mount.
