Of course I can't speak for JRS on his truck, and I didn't put a flip kit on my 2014, although I'm as low as it can possibly go without a flip kit, I do tow my boat alot and never have any trouble. I've hauled all kinds of stuff in the bed (washer/dryer/refrigerator/wood/engines). Mine will occasionally bump the bump stops but not bad and it's got to be a big dip in the road, it rides really well. My previous truck was a 2013 Crew Cab that I dropped 4/5 (with no notch) and hauled my boat with it too, it would hit the bump stops fairly regular. I should have notched it. Which is why I didn't do a flip on my 2014. Some peoples perception of needing a notch and not needing one is far different from my experiences. In my opinion after having both, if it's got a flip kit it should have a notch if you plan to use the truck at all.

i have a 14 and haul 3k pounds of water (in a dry season) on a trailer with no notch. It hits the trimmed bump stops on serious bumps but not near as bad as i expected, i will be fabbing up a set of bags like others have done tho.
