Default 02+ LS6 Cam in an LS2

Search on a couple other sites has brought up conflicting info. I'm installing the newer LS6 Cam (5308) in a 06 TBSS LS2 (going in a 72 Commando). Do I need to change the pushrods to longer pieces (7.425?) to allow for the change in base circle or is the slight difference in preload no big deal?

Are the ls2 tbss cam specs different from the ls2 vette cam specs? It was my understanding that the 02-04 ls6 and ls2 cams had the same specs but one was a gen III and one was a gen IV.

No, the LS2 has the same specs as the 01 and earlier LS6 cam.

Ah ok. Just curious, but why are you swapping? The difference in duration is so small I doubt you would gain more than 5-8 rwhp. Why not go with a bigger cam?

The 01 is what 204/211 and the 02-04 is 204/218?

Lift was boosted from 525 to 550 as well as the exhaust duration increase.
This cam boosted the 5.7 LS6 (same cam specs as LS2) from 385 to 405hp, so it should easily boost the LS2 20hp as well, for the money ($100) that's cheap hp. Additionally this cam is very strong down low where I need it offroad. I could have a custom ground cam done that would provide somewhat better low end power but it would be 3.5 times the cost. When I say low end I mean torque at 1300-2200rpms with a super stable idle that can handle alot of loading/unloading and slamming around...

Based on a few PM's I've recieved on other sites I'm gonna stick with the stock(7.400") pushrods, the lifters can make up the .025" change in geometry and this engine will likely never see the north side of 5200rpms.

The valve train on my s10 was reasonably quiet using the 02 ls6 cam and stock pushrods. I later swapped in a set of 7.425's and it quietened it up it had a light valvetrain noise before.

Unfortunately that cam produces anything but torque down low. I tried the cam in a few different vehicles and it always killed the low end torque and really dident help all that much up top either.

I was very happy with it when I used it in the 5.3, but it was FI. WJ Mark documented a 50 rwhp gain over a stock cam. I know there are better cams but not for the money. Good luck with your build.
