212/218 hi lift in a stock 5.3
I have a 5.3 in my wife's Yukon. I am building an iron LS2 for it. I have a 212/218 high light cam that I was going to put in a LS1 with some TEA Stage 1.5 heads that I am swapping in my Samurai. Anyway, I was curious how that cam would work in the 5.3 while I am waiting for the LS2 to be done and the rest of the parts to get here for the LS1. I would need some LS6 springs, but would be using the stock stall now and manifolds unless I find some headers soon. Would the cam swap net enough extra power to be worthwhile? Or would it be better to throw on the TEA heads even though they have a 59cc chamber? The only reason I am looking at this is because Stacey's truck is a slug off the line and down shifts a lot on the interstate at speed. It has a Vengeance Tune, Magnaflow muffler and 3.73 gears stock.

High lift is .558"/.563"
I have this cam in my stock stalled 5.3 ext cab with 3.23s. It isn't that quick off the line. It was a blast when I had 4.10s although I have never gotten the tires to squeal on takeoff.
It DOES pull strong to 6300 where I shift at. I didn't really notice a difference in low end with the cam, so I'm not going to say it would help in that department. I'd kinda like to try the low lift version just for comparison's sake.
My next motor will be a LQ9 with 243 heads and I'm wanting to reuse this cam. Should make for good low end in that motor and still enable it to breathe.

Hey now, at least they squeal when the turbo spools up.
There is something to be said about the sheer torque of a larger motor. Hopefully high compression will make it even better.
FI just complicates things, I had my fun.
And I don't believe in aftermarket TCs.

Like that they exist, or just not gonna spend the money?
If I knew then what I know now, a Yank would have been my second mod, behind spray. I mean maybe even before the "free" mods cause most of those are all BS anyway. I would definatly would not do a cam before a converter again! My 3600 dropped a full second off my E.T.!

No no, I believe they exist. I just don't believe in using them as a quick fix for an awful bottom end. I'm looking for torque now.
Also, I don't like the added stress they create.
Also, I would rather have as many OEM parts as possible.
Also, I'm not building an all out race truck. I just like to have fun while in cruising around.
To each their own.
