I dont think the blanket statement that "its too big for a 5.3 DD" applies to anyone. Maybe for you, but maybe not for me, or whoever else.
I have driven less cubes with more cam and it does fine, its all about your COMPLETE SETUP, and tuning. Everyone has a different opinion about what driveable and "street friendly" is. Prime example: My other thread in this very section addressing "baby cams"... If it were my truck to DD, it would have more gear, more stall, more cam, and I'd drive it anywhere, everywhere and pull whatever I wanted... Its not my DD, its my wife's. She wants as little variation from stock manners as possible. She wouldnt stick a 230/230 cam in a 4.8 and drive it, but I would...
Its 3 degrees bigger than your imaginary threshold of 220 degrees. I understand this may be your guideline or rule of thumb but not everybody's so its not a really accurate statement IMO.
to the OP, I think the cam would do fine in your truck with a 3000-3200 converter, maybe even bigger (I'd go with a 3600 personally) and at least some 4.10's if youre going to run it N/A. Get a GOOD tune and free flowing exhaust, and enjoy it... If not, its a cheap comparison and will allow you to make a better choice for whatever your next cam selection should be.
