Question 224R vs. 228R

I have decided to do a cam this spring and enjoy this truck more this summer. I've narrowed it down to these two cams. It is a 6.0 LQ9 motor with lt's, cai, 160* thermo, wires/plugs, tb bypass, dual exhaust, 3.73's and a custom tune... I will be doing all tuning myself. This truck is my dd, but I don't mind cams too much. All I really wnt is something that makes good power, sounds mean, and has good street manners. I know most street manners come from the tune. Which would you guys reccomend and on what LSA? I mostly want low-end torque, but would greatly appreciate a lil more mid to high-end for rolling starts and highway passing! I will not be uppgrading the TC for some time, if at all. Keep that in mind.

David (Dlt76028) is making great power out of his 6.0 with a TSP224R on a 114 and it still sounds mean. You're gonna need a stall with either cam IMO.

I cannot say this enough. Custom grinds are the only way to go when looking for a unique request. Your truck is not going to be like anyone elses', so have a cam ground for your truck's needs only. If you find a company to grind you a great cam, it will be the last one you ever buy if you are honest with the representative over the phone about your needs.

I would not pick the 224 or the 228 though. If it were my rig, the cam would probably look like a 220/224 with mid .560's for lift on the stock LQ9 heads, and a 112+2 lobe sep angle. With that said though, I do not know enough about your truck to make a final suggestion. I can say the 228 is too big. The 224 is getting closer, but Texas Speed cams are a joke and would not do half as well if it weren't for sheep-like LS1tech members who can't think for themselves. For the money spent there are MUCH better cams out there.

The two cams are very similar, the 228 has a tad more lift, duration.. It will like a slightly bigger converter. From all the reading I have done, a custom grind is prob best but either one of these will make for a good sounding, running cam. I am running the 224r in my 6.0 and it makes great power I think, I am happy with it but am sure a custom grind will make more power.... Every vehicle is different, but you should be happy with either one if you don't want to go custom ground

That's a bold statement. Do you have any facts to back that up or are you just clutching at straws. TSP sells their own grinds because that's the ones they've had the best results with from Comp. They will order a custom ground cam from Comp for you for no upcharge. If you don't like TSP cams then you don't like Comp cams or the lobes they offer. I'm not saying that isn't possible either because I know several people who like some other cams better but I don't see a reason to point a finger at TSP and say they're doing something wrong. Sheep huh? LS1Tech member do 100x the swapping and testing as most members here so I'd trust their opinion over most here...

I know who that guy is...

He suggested a 220/224 in the .56x range in/exh so lets see a comparison between that and the 224R and see which one is the joke...

I see nothing wrong with the TSP cams....they offer the most common cams for an off the shelf application. They offer custom grinds for the same price...whats wrong with that? As far as the 224 and 228R cams they are both great choices! For a 6.0 I would go 228R but thats me.
If you dont like any of TSP's cams, you dont like comp's cam's, so buy an ISKY, or a crane cam if ya can find'em. Many people have had great success with the TSP224R and TSP228R in 6.0's!

This coming from a guy runnin a TR cam
