Default 4.8 to 5.7 and it RUNS

Ok for all that don't know here is what I did. I took a 99 4.8 and bored it to a ls1. Here is what all I put in it: used 5.3 crank (had it polished), used ls1 pistons and rods, stock truck heads with a home port and polish job, ls1 intake with 28.8 injectors, mac mid lenghts, patriot 226 cam, patriot gold springs, used the 4l60e with a fuddle 3200 stall. I put this setup in a 67 swb c10, it has 20's on all 4 corners and a 295/40/20 on the back and 3:73's and a eaton posi. The truck weighed 3900lbs with the 283/th350 and I haven't weighed it since I did the swap. Here is the good news; you can be at a dead stop and stomp it and all it will do is smoke the tires off. rolling 20mph and stomp it and tires smoke. I am real happy with the way it runs and compared to a 4.8 or a 5.3, well there are no comparison. If you have a 4.8 or a 5.3 that is a complete running motor and didn't have to buy much besides the crank, rods, and pistons, plus bolts, bearing and gaskets I think it is a pretty good way to go. No dyno #'s becasue there isn't one around here.

That's a nice upgrade from a 4.8. How many miles have you put on it so far? Any problems with the used pistons and rods?

Just make sure your tune is very good, a little detonation can toast a stock piston easily. Sounds like a fun little build.

It was a custom tune done on site by Scott ( I think his business is genIIIperformance out of Alabama). He is a cool guy and knows his ****. We still have to do the WOT shift and all that but it runs great. I think it will spank about any muskrat around town.

Good news Jkade72. Where are you located?
I just built a 383 for a friend out of a 5.3 block bored to 3.905" and a 4.00 stroke. Works fine so far.
