I say since you have a the short stroke motor, stick the GM grand am cam in there:
http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/1981...g-Camshaft.htm

While you are at it, put in some katech rod bolts and let the thing fly!

Or you could do like others and swap in a 6.0L, but where is the originality in that?

Are you serious or was that a joke? Do you realize how huge of a cam that is. Many wouldn't put that in a 6.0 much less a 4.8L. He'd need like a 4k stall to make it worth while.

I would say half serious half joking. I'd like to see someone use this cam in a truck. I bet that thing would make power forever.

The only fly in the ointment could be: Although you say you are currently in Hawaii and are from Tennessee, I can't help noticing the "California" in your name. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe CA disallows the installation of engines larger than what was available from the factory for that particular year, make and model. Apparently they do not currently check but they may some day in the future. However, you can get Radix, Whipple and I think STS setups that are officially CARB approved. Again it may not be a problem, just something to think about.
i was stationed in cali for a couple years. just something easy to remember.

whats the diff. between the ls6 heads and the stock 4.8l heads. does the ls6 heads have a biger bore, or port than the 4.8l. i could go and have mine machined. would that be just as good as ls6 heads

There is quite a bit of difference between the 4.8/5.3 heads and the LS6.
First is the combustion chamber shape and size LS6 heads have 64.45cc & the 4.8/5.3 head sports 61.15cc …So given that if you use the LS6 head without milling them you will lose compression (not good) If you use them have your machine shop mill them .030” to .035”.
Secondly and most importantly the lS6 head will out flow the 4.8/5.3 head .
Don’t spend too much money building up a set of lS6 heads…
Here is the mistake I made:
New 05 GTO heads $500
Comp Valve $300
Milling & ccing $200
Raduis under seat area $200
Patrriot Performance sprgs & ret $285
Total $1485.00
After spending that much money I could had saved just a little more and had a nice set of after market CNC heads
