408 ???
Hey i have an 03 z71 that i put a lq9 6.0 in that the oil pump went out on 55k miles and im thinking about going a different route. i want the truck as a daily driver and to pull boats, car trailers, etc. Pretty much to keep as truck duties could be done if fell that way lol. My ? is that can i get that out of a 408? What are some prices if anyone has done it and is it worth it in the long run. What all would i have to do to build a 408 out of the 6.0. Thanks advance

The 408 is a perfect engine for a work horse type setup. I've had a good few friends I've helped build their 6.0L's into 408's and they are very happy with their decision. With the right selection of parts you will end up with an big increase in torque and a decent increase in horsepower. If you do a 408 as a true truck use motor you won't likely regret it.

Thanks for the help from both of you. I just like to do all the research that i can to make sure its right when it goes back in. But im just not good with finding the parts and prices online or know what names brands are the good ones lol. If you lived closer zippy i would get you to help lol. O and the 243 heads we talked about didnt yall say that they were on the 5.3s alot we have three 5.3s and one 4.8 and the 5.3 all have the 708 heads and the 4.8 has 862s or something like that. Does it have to be certain year or something?

243's are LS6 heads -- pretty similar to the 317s that are on the LQ9, except the compression on the LS6 head is 64cc instead of 72cc and the valves are physically different (hollow stem intake valve and sodium filled exhaust valve on the LS6 heads, vs. stainless valves on the 317s).
For the crank, the most popular choices seem to be Eagle, Compstar (made by callies) and Callies. Low dollar rod choices are Eagle, Compstar. Pistons -- whew... Wiesco got my money on the 427, but I have diamonds in the 408.
Basically, you are looking for a 4.00" stroke crank, 4.030" pistons and 6.125" rod. You will need quality bearings set up for the crank and rods. Upgrade your fasteners while you are at it, and that engine will live long and prosper
408s are torque monsters, no way around it with them being nearly "square". My 408 and Parish8's 408 both made around 10% more torque than horsepower (both were max effort turbo builds however).
