You should look into the 80e from the get-go.

I like your cam choice for a stock torque converter. Most guys that say its too small are running 3000+ RPM stalled converters. If you have torque, you don't need to skip a third of your RPM range....

Personally, I have a 2400 rpm converter and an 80E. I used the truck as a DD for years with the 408 and 236/230 cam. It was fine as a daily driver -- in fact, as I said, it felt pretty stock. When you go to no overlap, the duration doesn't hit as hard in driveability, IMO. Even so, the biggest problem with your cam isn't that its too small, but that the split is wrong for what you want to do.

In my C5, I have a 427 with big (P&P 245cc) heads and a G5X3 cam in it. It's my daily driver, with an MM12 (Z06) manual 6-spd. That cam is very easily at DD, and is 237/246 .600/.609 on a 114 lsa. It may be that your engine builder is more into small block chevies than GENIII stuff, or is thinking about the stock cubes. Of course, what makes a car driveable is different to different folks, which is why I try to describe things in terms of "feeling stockish" or "wild" etc. I've been driving large cube GENIII engines with 230s cams in 'em since 2004ish. I wouldn't worry about it as a DD at all.

8psi is my street level. I run no meth at that level. Depending on heads and exhaust, you will probably see in the 500-600ish range for HP with maybe +75-100 ft.lbs. Still way too much for a DD 60E. At that power level, my lvl 5 4L65 did things like turning the sprag while sitting at a stop sign, etc. They just aren't very reliable with that much torque in a heavy *** truck.

PatG spec'd my 408 cam. I said I wanted it very daily driveable and a light chop would be ok but only if it had great street manners. Mine is also for a forced induction setup. its a 231/239 .598 .612 116+1
Notice the user title under my screen name? I tried to stick with the 60E for a long time. After 5 of those **** boxes exploded I went to an 80E. 3+ years of DD beating on it with 470/501 in a 6000lb Tahoe and it's still holding fine. Get a big cooler for it and forget about it.
