434 sb vortec fuel injection
I'm wanting to build a 434 for a 1997 2 door tahoe. My question is, can it be done? i want to keep the compression close to stock and i don't want to get radical with the cam........due to tuning issues. can it be done?

Sure can, but will be kind of interesing. You'll have to swap to the marine intake or ramjet, etc. because of the fueling/airflow required. All of these intakes have better flow than the stocker, plus get rid of those crappy poppet injectors. You can run virtually any size injector you want in these. You'll also have to switch to the 0411 pcm, which is a LOT better than the blackbox pcm. Opens up ALL tuning pathways.

yes it would be a lot cheaper to use the HT383. With the HT383 you can use the original injection, with a 434 that has any nuts, you will have to swap out the injection/intake setup. Plus it wont be cheap to build a proper 434 SBC.
For $4500 you get, a distributer, wires, crank reluctor, front cover, plugs. You just drop on your intake and run.
Westers Garage, sells a flow matched injection spider assembly that can fuel up to 440hp naturally aspirated. I do know that the ZZ383 rated at 425hp can be fueled by the stock injection. And I do know of a ported Vortec head 383 that dynoed at over 330 rwhp using STOCK poppet spider injection.
To install a 434 in a Vortec 350 equipped vehicle you will need to use (as Husk mentioned) a Marine/Ramjet or other intake that uses actual conventionals fuel injectors that allows larger injector usage.
I am usig the Mercruiser MArine intake.
here is a link with all the info.

If possible using a Vortec block, or at least a rolelr cam block would be best. As you need to incorporate the 4x crank reluctor and the crank sensor that rides in the plastic front timing cover.
The 434 can be done, there are options, depends on your budget.

The basic 427 SBC is over $7000 then add in all the fuel injection parts to even get close to support it, and it will be an insane amount for 450 HP if your lucky?
Use the 383HT and upgrade it as you will be thousands ahead for the same HP rating.

I would do a 383 and do this http://www.pacificp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7933
And use the LS1 Coil per Cylinder Conversion with the Gen III PCM.
HOG didn't you have input on these swaps?
And why couldn't you use some sensors or the reluctor wheel off the later models 4.3L. The new ones are 58x BTW. ANd use three coil packs.
