496 Plus Big BLock???

Default 496 Plus Big BLock???

My buddy has a 2003 Chevy Silverado 3500 with the 496 ci inch big block. truck has only 9300 miles on it was pretty much a show truck and literally was hit by a semi and he bought the truck back from insurance to part out.

Now would the 496 fit in our trucks. IM thinking of doing the scat crank strokin it out with some good heads and prob a lot cheaper than doing a LSX block up.


Seeing whats the max bore and stroke we can get im hoping for 550-560 cubic inch set up. Get nice cam and using the tvs 2300 at prob 12-14 psi pump gas which im sure will prob put 900-1000 hp down.

So what do you guys think??

freakin 496 stroked out 10.1 compression on pump gas shoudl be insane

not honestly worth the effort. and no it wont fit in the frame.

... I wouldn't... 400+ cubes of GENIII/IV + TVS equals much less headaches... IMO... even if you got the big block for free. Just IMO I keep thinking of the nickel and diming adaptations...

496 is a gen7 BB. There are few things that will interchange with older BB but heads are not one them. Raylar makes the only after market head for this engine. And they're not cheap!
It's much cheaper to build a SB.

since when does magnacharger make a lower manifold for the 8.1L
