If you do headers and a 3 inch exhaust without cats you might loose a little TQ down low. Make sure you have it tuned and tuned well

you are going to need a tune with a cam, headers, or pretty much any mod besides a muffler and intake. so figure that into whatever you do. I had a 206 212 112 in my 5.3. It made great power down low, improved up to a little and got me a fair amount better fuel mileage. If you are doing your own work, you could do this for around 1k. I used $40 ls6 springs and stock pushrods since its not real high lift.

I just put in the Trailblazer stall and It made a huge difference in driving... I'm gointo the track as soon as I can But I know it will launch better. Just can't get traction from a dead stop on the street... It will leave side by side 40 foot lines though and a BIG SMILE on my face!! cost me $235 with a used stall, new tranny filter and fluid, and Intake manifold gasket... did it for ease of install

+1, I agree with this statement, my cam and tune alone were worth .9 and almost 8 mph in the 1/4, this is my current cam when I had Gibson shorties

Pushrods are a must IMO, the stockers are weak and not intended for the more agressive ramp rates of aftermarket cams, even the mild ones. Guys have gotten by with the stock pushrods, but I've also read a thread or two where the stockers have bent. Haven't read too much about problems with aftermarket hardened pushrods.

2k vette cam for 100 bucks, you use stock rods, springs, stock converter and get 30hp, cai 250,tune 250,u/d pulley 250,exhaust done, save for lt headers and he will be happy.

I ran stock pushrods with my custom Comp cam for YEARS, and put probably 50K miles on it with no issues, I checked them when the motor came out and not a single one was even close to being bent. the cam was a 224/227 .576/.588 11+3 on XeR lobes.... I'm not saying its not wise to use good pushrods.... but dont get the impression you'll bend one for sure, I'm sure the cam I had is bigger than any of the ones you'd be considering anyway.... just some realistic advice...

Its not so much duration that is hard on pushrods but lobe profile, spring pressure and rpm...

Tune, baby stall and lt headers get my vote
