I would like to see 300-325 hp and 400 ftlbs from my 5.3 swap. Would a heads and cam swap get me close? I prefer the torque to hp. I am doing a swap in a 87 GMC CCSB. Jay

I make 320hp and 300lbs of torque on a 4.8 with just a cam and a good tune. So I would guess that your power numbers are entirely feasible with heads and a cam on a 5.3. Just make sure to get a good tune.

What year motor? I have 286whp and 301wtq in 2nd, converter unlocked with CAI, muffler and tune on an 07 5.3l. 300 to 325 should be real easy with a NNBS motor with bolt ons and a small cam.

Getting the horsepower is going to be pretty easy, but you won't be anywhere near 400 ft lbs.

You might be able to get ~360ft lbs with a really good H/C combo and spot on tune, but it's not going to have torque down low if that's what you're after.

I put down 334rwhp and 324lbs of torque in 106* weather with mods in sig. HP will be easy to achieve, torque on the other hand will be hard.. Good luck

If you're just looking for numbers then you have a chance to get close to that figure. You'll need to be running a 4l60e at the most locked up in 3rd gear with the stock converter and stock gearing with 28" tires or so.

Of course that's assuming you have a full heads/cam setup, full bolt ons, short belt mod, and pretty much everything else you can think of.

Even with all that, his only hopes for a 400 ft lb dyno number would be inflating the numbers.

I guess it depends on the dyno as well.

My truck put down 390/380 with bolts ons, cam and whipple at 7psi. That was with some belt slip so its a little closer to 400. And it's a 5.3L.

tdrumm had over 330hp and high 300's tq with a Vinci Asp Kicker cam (210/218 .551/.551 112) and WCCH StageI 5.3 heads. Exhaust consisted of ASM long tubes, factory y-pipe with cats, and a Magnaflow cat back. Under the hood he had a K&N FIPK, 05 efans, and Underdrive Pullies. Also had a Shaner ported TB, which was worth a few HP when he swapped it on while on the dyno, but IIRC, he lost a few lb/ft of torque. Driveline was an FLT Level5 trans, Yank TT3000, and 4.10's with a Detroit TruTrak. I drove this truck many times, and once had the pleasure of using it as my DD for a week while I was doing some work on it, and it was stout. I only wish I had the money when he put it up for sale as I liked everything about his truck.

In short (to late ha ha), I was very impressed with the set up he had, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a stout DD with excellent street manners. My .02
