How do you know if you have an HO motor???My window sticker said nothing of it being a 5.3L HO?

Well, the big tip off is the aluminum block. It is engine code L33.

Extended cab 4x4's are the only trucks that I know of that come with the L33 HO 5.3. My 2006 Z71 has one.

seems like alot of work and then the 5.3 would be a little high strung. i have connections that i could get an ls1 cheap. how hard would it be to swap in an ls1, and still keep all the a/c and power steering.

Easy. Im not 100% sure, but I think the A/C bracket will bolt up fine.

im pretty sure its all a direct bolt on...if you can get LS1's cheap could you get lq9's cheap too?? how cheap are you talkin?

LQ9s are few and far between compared to LS1s. The ratio seriously is about 150:1 for those motors.
