this is where we talk about what your expectations are, what are you gonna turn it up to .. how much juice, etc.. i think the stock pistons/rods are fine to 6500 rpm or so, and fine with 150-200 shot, as long as your tune/fuel is dead on..
i would be more concerned with the valvetrain i.e. good stainless valves, good springs, hardened PR's, etc..
unless you are going for a big amount of spray like 200-300.. or going to turn it up 7000+, you are talking a good amount of money here for forged parts.
IIRC, 5.3 pistons arent made in an off the shelf forged size. i think you would have to bore your block to accomodate a forged 5.7 piston... which, IIRC, TooTall already has done and was selling the whole assemble for a decent price. would be less work/cheaper to PM him and ask him.
he is a very knowledgable guy, and could presumably answer all of your questions on the forged build you are interested in

Ebay, I have ordered a set of take out LS2 rods and pistons and as set of LQ4 pistons and rings. I don't know what you can find, I have my motor as the machine shop and they are all in great shape. Let me know if I can help since we live so close. Just PM me, if LS2 pistons or whatever will work they are easily found it seems. Just research and see.
