6.0 LQ9 In A Rock Crawler
Hello everybody, new to the forum. I've been searching for the last few days on information for what I'm wanting to do and I've already found abunch of helpful stuff (although the more I read the dumber I feel). I just wanted to start a thread specialized to what I was looking for.
Here's what I got. Stumbled across a 2004 LQ9 out of an Escalade w/ 80k on it for only $500. Looking to upgrade from the TBI 350 in my buggy- strictly off road rig w/ 44" tires, TH350, Atlas 4.3:1 transfer case, and 5.13 R&Ps. I know the 6.0s make some pretty good power stock but i figured before I threw it in there I'd try and add some more.
Looking to get strong low end power to help lunge up on the big rocks and some good mid range to keep it going on long loose hills (I think).
I was thinking about putting a cam in and since I know a couple of machinists maybe getting the heads milled a little????? Never realy done anything like this but I'm interested in learning how to. Also maybe some headers and a couple more bolt ons? I have a guy nearby that can tune it for me once I get everything done. Any help and ideas you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks alot,
Justin

I have a gauge for that

Honestly you are going to want most of your power as low in the rpm band as possible, in which case the stock cam or a small 212/218 will be your best bet. You already have the low gears so you are set there. I think a cam and tune will make you very happy, but if you want some serious off-idle ***** buy a roots-style supercharger.

I would bump the compression either way but especially if running a cam with more overlap. A 212/218 with a tight 110 or 112LSA on 11:1 compression should do it. Then again in a buggy a stock 6.0 with a good intake, exhaust, and tune should do the trick.

Definately! The 6.0 is a strong motor but it doesn't pull like the Vortec 350s below 4k rpms. I went from a '97 extended cab 5.7 to an '05 Silverado SS and the low end in the 5.7 KILLS the 6.0. The '97 only had 3.42 gears and the SSS has 4.10s...I couldn't imagine the '97 with 4.10s.

Are you saying have the heads milled or something for higher compression? And I'm still kinda dumb on engine mods, I understand the 212/218 but what do you mean by 110 or 112LSA?

Also I need to get a throttle body for it. Found one I can pick up at the junkyard...or is there one that would give me better performance that would be a direct bolt on with stock intake?
