Default 6.0 vs 5.3

I'm sure this has been beat to death on here and I apologize for not doing a proper search, however is there any real difference between the 5.3 and the 6.0 aside from different displacements? I would like to do a fairly large turbo build on something around 408ci, is there any reason to go out and buy a 6.0 or just use the 5.3 that's already in the truck for the basis for the build?

You can only build a 5.3 up to a 383 (on a good quality block) but most usually just bore/stroke it to LS1 specs. The 6.0 is needed for 400+ cubes.

To do a large build (408) you need the 6.0

Thanks for the help, at least I'll be started off in the right direction for the engine build.

Also how big can you go on a 6.0? Is it worth it to go bigger than a 408 on a turbo build?

Do a 370 if you wanna go turbo. I've seen a few 6.0s stroked out to 414 before.

well depending on how much boost you plan on running and what your goals are, the stock 6.0 (LQ4) might be all you need since it already comes with dished pistons, lowering the compression a little bit, making it able to withstand a little more abuse from the turbo, also the 6.0 (317) heads also are good to have when doing a turbo build

If your doing a turbo the size difference between the 5.3 and the 6.0 can be made up with less than a 1/2 psig of boost. Thats why Kenny Duttweiler can run against big motored turbo cars with a less than 300ci V6 or V8.

Thanks for all the help again everyone. I don't plan on using any of the factory internals on this build, going for a pretty sizable turbo before it ever gets made running again. Hoping to make something simliar to Parish's truck, his truck had to be one of the ultimate sleepers. I'm not working with a killer budget but I figured over time I could gather what I needed.
