Default 6.2 Crate engine

Was just wondering the thoughts of doing a crate 6.2 in a 04 sierra ex cab, currently have a 5.3 with some mods, was thinking just drop in a new 6.2 with a nice cam and be done with it, thay say it has 480 hp with a hot cam, maybe a better cam and get maybe 500 hp? is it a pain in the *** becouse of the relucter wheel?

You can do so much more with the money you would spend for a new crate 6.2.
You can get a longblock LQx or LY6 which comes with L92 heads and intake. Bore that out to a 6.2 and buy forged internals and go from there.

I would just like to buy a motor ready to drop in and get the quality of a new motor with as close to to 500 hp as possible.

I think its a great idea, but you have to deal with the camshaft and crankshaft ignition triggers, the VVT, and possibly DOD. It won't be drop in.

Lingenfelter makes one also, unless that's what you're referring to...

You'll need the inverter box, and you'll have to run new wires to the cam sensor which is located on the timing cover. I doubt that the crate engine comes with the cam sensor so you'll have to get that, as well as the timing cover unless that comes with the crate engine. You'll also have to run wires to the knock sensors. Simple stuff actually, but I've heard of problems with the converter modules, unless they have been remedied by now.

guess i am better off to just buy a lq9 or lq4 and put the good stuff in it, I have a 3000 yank converter and a built tranny, what would be a good set of heads and cam for a daily driver but with alot of haul ***! when you want it? I want it to be all motor.

Definitely do 402 or 408, don't waste your time with a 6.2. Plus i have a hard time believing a 70 hp gain with just a hotcam theres not enough lift in that cam to make those kind of gains. just my .02
